February 8 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
| FreeEvent Navigation
Chadi Sayde, assistant professor in the BAE department, will give a talk on “High-Resolution Environmental Monitoring with Distributed Temperature Sensing.” This talk is a part of the ASSIST speaker series where the ASSIST Center hosts speakers on many Thursdays throughout the semester.
Lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early.
From the speaker-
Recent advances in the use of heated Fiber Optics (FO) in conjunction with Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) technology have shown great potential for bridging the gap in environmental monitoring, covering scales from 0.1 meters to 10,000 meters. In this presentation, we will highlight the latest developments in applying FO-DTS technology to measure key processes and controls within the hydrological cycle, such as soil water storage, soil water fluxes, and wind velocity, across scales from individual plants to field levels. We will discuss the theoretical background, results from test cases, and both the challenges and potential of the FO-DTS method.
