BAE in Belgium: Alston Willard

Alston Willard never thought study abroad was an option for him. He was on a 5 year track and didn’t think he had the time.

“I didn’t even know you could study abroad as a student,” explained Willard, who is majoring in Biological and Agricultural Engineering with a concentration in ecological engineering. “I heard about those who did study abroad in high school but I thought those people were untouchable. I could never do that!”

The Belgium: Environmental Science and Engineering Study Abroad program in Leuven, Belgium provided him the flexibility to study abroad while staying on track for graduation. The program  not only fit into a summer so he wouldn’t have to take another semester off, but it took care of some of his major classes.

“When this dream became a reality I could hardly hold back my excitement to do something my parents or even grandparents had ever done. ”
