PE Review Webinar Instructions The review webinar series will use the Elluminate Live! web-conferencing package.
Make sure that the computer and browser that you intend to use for the sessions works with Elluminate and that you have a microphone and speakers or a headset for the audio portion of the webinars. All audio will be via the Internet (VoIP).
Do the setup and system checks at the location(s) that you will use for the webinars. Security measures vary among ISPs and networks. What works fine in one location may be blocked in another.
Elluminate depends on Java™, so make sure you have the latest version of Java™ installed on your computer. It is free.
Elluminate uses cookies. You must enable cookies for the server, slms.delta.ncsu.edu. Check both your browser and any firewalls for restrictions on cookies.
Before your first webinar, visit Elluminate support. Follow the instructions for first-time users. Be sure to visit the Configuration Room. There, you will select the appropriate connection speed for your Internet connection and set the volume for your microphone and speakers. Then, at the very least, run through the Online Orientation. It provides a quick overview of the functionality of Elluminate. The Recorded Introduction also provides a quick look at Elluminate, using the Elluminate interface.
You can get documentation and see demonstrations at: http://www.elluminate.com/support/docs/8.0/Elluminate_Live_V8_Participant_Quick_Reference_Guide.pdf
You can attend orientation sessions offered by Elluminate. These are free and are available from the support page.
Your ISP may have a firewall in addition to your local firewall. If you have difficulty connecting to the sessions, check the settings for your ISP's firewall.
If you have trouble getting Elluminate to work, call their tech support number, 866-388-8674 (option 2).
To access a session, go to the Schedule of Sessions page and click on the hyperlink for that session (illustration). That will open an information page which contains the session password and a link to the Elluminate server (illustration). An alternate method is to go directly to the Elluminate server and find the link for the session (illustration). You will still need the session password.
A session will have a boundary time of 15 minutes before its official start. During that time, you will be able to connect to the session and receive preloaded materials for the presentation. The time required for the preloaded materials to transfer will depend on your connection speed. Give yourself plenty of time (at least for your first session) until you learn how long it takes for the session setup to complete.
All of the sessions are recorded by the Elluminate server. After a live session terminates, the server automatically processes the recording and posts it under "Recordings" (right next to "Meetings"). The session password is required to access the recording. The session will be delivered as streaming media, with the ability to move through the session by moving a slider control at the bottom of the application window.
Elluminate recordings are in a proprietary format. We cannot directly convert the recorded sessions to another format.
When you register, you will be added to a forum that will be used for announcements, discussions, and Q&A. Please use the forum rather than direct email to the presenters so that everyone will benefit from the interaction.
Please read the various pages about the philosophy of the series, etc., so that you will have a good understanding of how the series will be presented and why.
Welcome, and we hope that you find the webinars helpful as you prepare for the PE exam.
If you have any questions about the series (or suggestions), contact Rod Huffman.
