What is the NC LID Group?

North Carolina is developing at a rapid rate. As such, it is not practical to halt development nor is it practical to assume that resources are quickly and easily replenishable. Although there are many entities in the State that use principles of low impact development, it is often difficult and laborious to access this information in a single place.The NC Low Impact Development Group was created to help remedy this problem.

North Carolina has streamlined the principles of LID to five key strategies:

  1. Conserve natural areas;
  2. Minimize development impacts through design and techniques;
  3. Maintain time of concentration;
  4. Storage, detention and filtration of integrated management practices; and
  5. Pollution prevention and education.

The NC LID Group serves as a depository of information on low impact development research and projects across North Carolina. For further information on this initiative you may contact Dwane Jones at dwane_jones@ncsu.edu or 919-515-0476.
