Department Services

Technical Assistance &
Project Support @ BAE

There are a number of services and labs areas within the department to assist the students, faculty and staff with engineering projects and research efforts. Several of these services also assist state agencies and the greater UNC University system.

Research Shop

The Research Shop is a full-service machine shop which providing assistance to state agencies, any UNC system university department and most specifically supports BAE engineering research and student project needs.

Environmental Analysis Lab

The Environmental Analysis Lab is a Waste Management & Water Quality Sampling and Evaluation service used by state agencies & municipalities, any UNC system university department and most specifically supports BAE engineering research efforts. Students can't work in this lab however, students working on some environmental projects may seek need to request sample testing.

Computer Support

Computing is essential to good engineering and the department has a full-time computer system programmer who administers Computer Support for the BAE computer lab, department printers, web server, and computing applications. Students may ask for assistance with lab computer problems and repair for department issued computers in addition to help with computer applications and programming at faculty request.

Graphics

The engineering discipline requires communication skills - presentations, printing, web and recently video are often involved in the completion of an engineering project. The department has a Graphics computer room with a full-time technician to work with students, faculty and staff developing presentations, borrow and using equipment, requesting poster printing and seeking assistance with graphic questions.

Electronic Shop

The department Electronic Shop works on engineering projects that require electronic experience to complete. The department employees a part-time electronics technician to help in this area when BAE engineers are unavailable. Students may ask for assistance from the shop with a faculty request.

Lab Management

There are several technical equipment labs within the department where faculty, staff and students work. These labs need Lab Management for monitoring for equipment purchases and required safety evaluations. The lab manager is available to work with the students on projects during the designated lab use times or by faculty request.
