Tips & Tricks
Make a short URL for your site
Where is my Web Space?
Personnel web space - NCSU unity ID
Your unity ID gives you web file storage space to keep, store and back-up information on the server system. This space is provided to all faculty, staff, and students. See OIT for this information This space provides:
- Personal file storage space beyond your computer.
- Option to turn part of your space into www web space. You must make a request to OIT
- For an overview of teaching & research lockers see Delta page Get Web Space.
- Course Lockers can be ordered from the College of Engineering EOS locker workspace.
- Training and workshops see delta online training
- People directory pages on the BAE web site. Please see Carolyn Mitkowski if you are not using Dreamweaver.
How do I make web pages?
New free Wordpress@ncsu web sites.
If you make a wordpress site it can be linked to BAE. The college of engineering will be implementing wordpress throughout the engineerng server in the future so get started with wordpress for your web sites.
Google Sites When loging-on to NCSU Google Mail you have access to other google applications. Google sites is where you can make a simple web page. Note the choice is along the top menu after you log in to your mail area. Read Google's Overview.
On- line free web sites:
- Webnode.com interactive web site builder with drag-and-drop feature.
- Yola.com It's drag-and-drop editing and you can edit images.
- Weebly.com looks like Microsoft Word so it's easy to use.
How do I save my web page to the server?
Our server is operated by EOS Computing run by the College of Engineering and called AFS/eos/
- Web pages are saved on the server into Lockers in AFS/eos. Lockers will look like folders to you but they have a different underlying status.
- Everyone at state is automatically given permission into there own AFS/eos/unity/ Locker which your department IT personnel can set up for you on your machine.
- Other types of lockers at State have permissions on them.
- If you want to own a locker you must request one to be made. See your department IT person Sherry Li.
- To get to any locker on the engineering server you must navigate the AFS/eos/ path to reach your locker space. Individual paths will lead you to different lockers that you may own. It is advised to write down the paths to your lockers because you may either not use it often or have too many lockers to remember the paths.
- You can also share locker permission with people. Sharing may be needed for team projects or a department Bio & Ag topic locker. In the BAE web site there is a Topic locker where faculty can request a locker for a spicific topic to highlight research or extension information or efforts.
- If you are the owner of a locker you can also control who gets to share it with you ( NCSU id needed). See http://www.eos.ncsu.edu/ in the right hand menu see Locker Portal (id needed) permission can easily be given and revoked.
