Large Format Poster Printing

Image: Person is holding one of the posters designed and printed in the department.

15 min. to print -- not so quick...

It takes hours and hours to get your poster data correct then it takes hours to edit your information. You need to choose the best way to get your point across with just photos, charts, short paragraphs and bullet points. Then you need a faculty member to review and OK it for printing. Note: that most posters need minor changes after your review.

Now you are ready to print. Lamination is only done upon faculty member request so check with them.

Who can operate the poster printer?

Graphic room personnel are permitted to use this printer. Why? It's a specialized and expensive printer which takes training to operate.

Poster Printing

The department has a large format HP poster printer (Plotter) located in room 207 Weaver Labs. It will print scientific posters and blueprints from PDF files, PowerPoint, Word, and Auto Cad.

Who can have a poster printed?

  1. Bio&Ag faculty, staff, and students only may request department poster printing. Contact: Carolyn Mitkowski
  2. All students need a PROFESSOR's PERMISSION to print.
  3. Senior Design students must get a final poster review from a faculty member before printing.
  4. Collaborative project posters between two programs need PERMISSION from a Bio&Ag professor. Why... because printing is not free and charges may have to be negotiated between the two departments.
  5. Other departments use the campus venues listed at the end of this page.

Additional Note: CALS student perk... Did you know? CAL's students are permitted to have 2 free student posters printed per-year through the CALS Poster Printing Service.

Poster templates and instructions

Proofing:

  • Make an Initial small design proof -- in pptx files don't go directly to the print preview option. Go to PRINT- choose "fit to page" and then choose the "print preview" it's at the bottom of the print menu.
  • Check your spelling and your alignment of shapes and objects. Let others look at your poster with a fresh eye. See if others can follow the flow of the information you have presented.

THE FINAL FACULTY REVIEW:

A professor must review your poster before large format printing. Lamination is only done upon faculty member request so check with them. Note: Most every posters needs minor changes after your faculty member review.

Note: All Senior Design posters need a final OK from your assisting faculty member or from your senior design professor. Senior design students may not bring a poster without a final faculty review.

How much time it takes to print:

  • It takes Bio&Ag about 15 min. to print a properly designed poster.
  • Please make an appointment to have your poster printed and plan ahead 2-3 days.
  • NOTE: Senior Design Teams -Please be aware of the progress of other groups so there's not a stampede to the large format printer thus causing everyone to be late with their finished posters.
