Types of Analysis Preformed

This page provides information about sample types, analysis procedures, and the major equipment used to perform analysis on samples in the Environmental Analysis Lab in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at NC State University.

Analysis Preformed

Sample Types

The Environmental Analysis Laboratory routinely conducts analysis on the following types of samples:

  1. Water (e.g., ground water monitoring wells, drinking-well water, agricultural run-off,etc.)
  2. Waste Water (e.g., lagoon liquid, food processing, effluent, poultry processing sludge, etc.
  3. Solid Waste (e.g., poultry litter, compost, manure, etc.)
  4. Soils ( e.g., waste amended soils, background soils, etc.) 
  5. Plant tissue (e.g., Bermuda grass, corn leaf, etc.)

The procedures are mainly EPA approved wet chemistry analyses of nutrients, mineral demand, and metals. For a complete list see List of Analysis.

  2. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
  3. Leco CN Analyzers for solids
  4. Teleclyne/Apollo 200 combustion TOC analyzer
  5. Gas Chromatograph
