Maintaining Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement: A Hands-On Demonstration

June 4, 2010 - Monterey, CA - 8:30am-2:30pm
Naval Postgraduate School,
ME Auditorium
702 Dyer Road, Building 255
Monterrey, California 93943

About the workshop:

As Low Impact Development (LID) use continues to increase, a better understanding of the technologies that are incorporated into LID is needed. One of the "up-and-coming" technologies for use across the USA is Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavers or PICP. Like all stormwater practices, PICP needs to be maintained. Research has shown that with relatively simple and reliable maintenance, this practice will continue to reduce runoff and clean water. This workshop will provide an overview of PICP, discuss recently completed permeable pavement maintenance research, introduce maintenance needs and equipment, and end with a demonstration of various maintenance techniques including street sweeping, stain removal, and vegetation control.
