About the workshop:
The North Carolina Division of Water Quality requires the use of level spreaders to provide diffuse flow through riparian buffers. Past research has shown that level spreaders upslope of riparian buffers are not effective BMPs. However, more recent study focusing on level spreader - vegetative filter strip systems shows a very promising BMP, particularly in high water table soils like those in eastern North Carolina. New level spreader design guidelines will be made available at the end of 2009 by NC DENR. This workshop will explain how to follow the new level spreader guidance so that participants can create more effective level spreaders and obtain state approvals for their development projects.
This workshop offers 4 PDHs (professional development hours) for professional engineers and surveyors, authorized by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. The NC Board of Landscape Architects has approved this course for 4.75 CEUs - Course Nbr. 7051. Other professionals may appeal to their respective boards to obtain professional education credits. We will provide a certificate of attendance at the conclusion of the workshop.
This workshop is sponsored by: NC State University Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, NC Cooperative Extension. NCSU is partnering with NC DENR - Division of Water Quality.
