Create Weather File
Tutorial: How to create a DRAINMOD weather file
1. Launch DRAINMOD.
2. Click Utilities > Create Weather File

3. Click Browse to search for the formatted weather file. Weather files are required to have a .WEA extension.


5. Double click on the weather file you would like to convert to a DRAINMOD weather file.
6a. For Daily Rainfall File
A. Click the Daily Rainfall option under Weather Variable.
B. Enter the number of hours you would like to distribute the rainfall. The utility will distribute an equal amount for each hour.
C. Enter the hour you would like to begin rainfall distribution. This will be the same starting hour for each day rainfall occurred.
D. Click the appropriate units.
E. Enter a 6 digit ID. Typically COOP ID's are used when available. Any 6 digit value will suffice.
F. Click Create to generate the DRAINMOD hourly rainfall file in your DRAINMOD/Weather folder.
6b. For Hourly Rainfall File
A. Click the Hourly Rainfall option under Weather Variable.
B. Click the appropriate units.
C. Enter a 6 digit ID. Typically COOP ID's are used when available. Any 6 digit value will suffice.
D. Click Create to generate the DRAINMOD hourly rainfall file in your DRAINMOD/Weather folder.
6c. For Temperature File
A. Click the Temperature option under Weather Variable.
B. Click the appropriate units.
C. Enter a 6 digit ID. Typically COOP ID's are used when available. Any 6 digit value will suffice.
D. Click Create to generate the DRAINMOD daily max / min temperature file in your DRAINMOD/Weather folder.
6d. For PET File
A. Click the Potential ET option under Weather Variable.
B. Click the appropriate units.
C. Enter a 6 digit ID. Typically COOP ID's are used when available. Any 6 digit value will suffice.
D. Click Create to generate the DRAINMOD daily max / min temperature file in your DRAINMOD/Weather folder.
7. Click Cancel to close the utility.
