Tutorial: Your first DRAINMOD hydrology simulation

This tutorial describes the basic procedure for performing simulations for a hydrology project in DRAINMOD.  Model inputs are note described in this section.

1. Launch DRAINMOD.

2. Click the Project Menu Button and choose Open Project.

3. Select any existing project file and click 'Open'. In this example, we choose the DHP project.

4. The Project Window will open and Project Settings in the Navigation Tree will be selected.

If a message box pops up indicating a file is missing, read The Missing File Error tutorial before continuing.

5. Optional.  Click the expand button (plus symbol) next to each section in the Navigation Tree. Expand any sub-sections as well.  Your tree should look as follows.

In this example we are running a short time period January 1959  - December 1964.

Do not specify a start or end date beyond the boundaries of the project weather files.  This will most likely corrupt your PRJ file and cause an error in DRAINMOD interface when you click Simulate.

6. Click Simulate

7. The black command window will pop up and the model will perform the simulation.  Depending on the simulation period, this can occur very fast and you will not be able to read the screen.  A screenshot is shown below.  Input file locations are specified as the model cycles through the simulation time period.

8. Click 'OK' once the simulation is complete.

9. Read Viewing Output for steps to view DRAINMOD output files
