| RC 501 | Geomorphic Monitoring of Stream Restoration Projects | 2 days |
|
Course Description: This 2-day workshop provides an overview of field techniques utilized in geomorphic monitoring of stream restoration projects. Students work in small groups in the field to complete a total station survey of a restored stream. They learn how to survey a longitudinal profile, permanent cross sections, and in-stream structures. Students also learn about field techniques for pebble counts to characterize bed materials. Participants analyze and process the survey data in the classroom using Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD. This workshop requires experience with total station surveys and completion of RC 101 or equivalent background in stream morphology assessment. Instructors: Greg Jennings, Phd, PE, Barbara Doll, PE, Jason Zink,PE, Zan Price, PE ![]() ![]() Registration Fee: $475 Directions: Located on Ambassador Loop on Town Hall Campus. The campus is off North Academy Street, between Chapel Hill Road and Chatham Street in downtown Cary. |

| RC 521 | Mountain Restoration Tour and Evaluation | 2 days |
Workshop participants will visit 8 stream restoration projects in Western North Carolina, including a project under construction. These projects range from high-gradient headwater streams to large river stabilization and enhancement projects. Participants will learn about implementation and evaluation of channel relocations, floodplain connections, in-stream structures, streambank stabilization, riparian buffer planting, and habitat enhancements. Instructors will demonstrate post-construction field monitoring techniques for morphology, sediment transport, vegetation, and macroinvertebrate assessment. At one project site, a contractor will demonstrate channel grading, structure placement, and bank stabilization. Participants should have training in stream assessment and restoration design. Registration Fee: $475 Registration will open shortly..... |

| RC 522 | Coastal Plain Restoration Tour and Evaluation | 2 days |
This two day workshop will involve tours with leading experts to innovative research and mitigation sites in eastern North Carolina. The focus will be on small headwater streams and wetland restoration sites. The first day will start in Edenton in Chowan County. Participants will receive some introduction to the sites we will visit, followed by a morning tour of a nearby NC Ecosystems Enhancement Program site. After lunch, we will travel to and tour a site in Bertie County near Windsor. This site tour will be hosted by EBX (Environmental Banc and Exchange, LLC). The second day will involve site tours of several mitigation sites near Bath and Belhaven NC. Site tours will be hosted by PCS Phosphate and Baker Engineering. These sites were either constructed in the last year or will be finishing up construction during the time of our tour. Attendees can sign up for one or two days of the tour. All attendees will spend a significant part of their day in coastal wetland environments where appropriate field gear such as rubber boots and bug spray will be needed. Participants will also be responsible for their own transportation to Edenton, and then from there to Windsor and the Bath/Belhaven area. Transportation to the field sites can be coordinated with carpools. Participants will need to meet at the Chowan County Public Safety Center for introductory presentations. We will provide meeting information, maps, and information for the second day when the location and schedule has been finalized. Lead Instructor: Kris Bass, PE Registration Fee: $25 per day, or $50 for the full 2-day workshop (lunch not provided) Click here for a map
