contractor training photo

This two day workshop provides practical information and field observation opportunities for contractors and construction oversight personnel involved in stream restoration construction. Participants will learn about stream restoration design concepts, in-stream structures, erosion and sediment control, streambank stabilization, and project bidding. Participants will visit an active, large-scale construction project on Shawneehaw Creek to learn about installation of stream restoration structures, stabilization techniques, and vegetation installation. A tour of the Linville River restoration, constructed in 2008, will also allow participants to see a completed project. Members of the NC Ecosystem Enhancement Program will be on hand to answer questions. An experienced contractor, North State Environmental, will demonstrate construction techniques and answer questions related to equipment, materials, and project management. A variety of construction plans and bid documents will be available for review and discussion. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

A one-hour comprehensive examination is provided at the end of class for those who wish to receive a certificate of completion from North Carolina State University.

RC 422 Coastal Plain Restoration Tour - Implementation & Evaluation 2 days

coastal stream photo

This two day workshop will involve tours with leading experts to innovative research and mitigation sites in eastern North Carolina. The focus will be on small headwater streams and wetland restoration sites. The first day will start in Edenton in Chowan County. Participants will receive some introduction to the sites we will visit, followed by a morning tour of a nearby NC Ecosystems Enhancement Program site. After lunch, we will travel to and tour a site in Bertie County near Windsor. This site tour will be hosted by EBX (Environmental Banc and Exchange, LLC).

The second day will involve site tours of several mitigation sites near Bath and Belhaven NC. Site tours will be hosted by PCS Phosphate and Baker Engineering. These sites were either constructed in the last year or will be finishing up construction during the time of our tour.

Attendees can sign up for one or two days of the tour. All attendees will spend a significant part of their day in coastal wetland environments where appropriate field gear such as rubber boots and bug spray will be needed.

Participants will also be responsible for their own transportation to Edenton, and then from there to Windsor and the Bath/Belhaven area. Transportation to the field sites can be coordinated with carpools. Participants will need to meet at the Chowan County Cooperative Extension Center for introductory presentations. We will provide meeting information, maps, and information for the second day when the location and schedule has been finalized.

Agenda coming soon.
