Shawneehaw Creek is a trout stream that runs
through the middle of Banner Elk Town Park. Over
4,000 linear feet have been stabilized with improved trout habitat.
Previous channelization and buffer removal caused
channel widening, bank instabilities, and loss of sediment transport capacity. The completed project has improved water quality
and aquatic habitat by reducing sedimentation, improved stream stability by altering
channel dimension pattern and profile, and improved riparian and floodplain functionality.
Stormwater wetland and underground vault.
Tour Kentucky Creek (under construction) in the
Town of Newland.
