Low Impact Development (LID) Workshop
March 10 - 11, 2004
Asheville, North Carolina

Sponsored by:

NC Division of Water Quality's Asheville Regional Office
NCSU French Broad River Training Center
University of North Carolina at Asheville

Workshop Description:

Low Impact Development (LID) is a design approach that seeks to sensitively incorporate development into existing site conditions. Minimizing hydrologic disruptions and preserving site features may reduce implementation costs. Local officials, developers, landowners, and design professionals will be exposed to LID design and application, cost comparisons between LID and conventional development for residential and commercial sites, and a model LID ordinance that meets Phase II stormwater requirements. This workshop will focus on specific environmental factors in Western North Carolina and participants will receive a notebook of presentation materials and links to resources such as the Huntersville model LID ordinance.

About the Speakers:

Neil Weinstein, P.E., R.L.A., A.I.C.P., is the Executive Director of the Low Impact Development Center, Inc., a non-profit water resources research organization. He has over 20 years of experience in water resources and environmental design and management and has worked on the development of LID for the last 8 years.

Rusty Rozzelle is the Water Quality Program Manager for the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency. He has over 24 years experience with water quality issues related to stormwater and wastewater for Mecklenburg County and the development of the Huntersville LID ordinance.

Frank Hahne, P.E., works with the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency. He has experience with urban drainage system design, Mecklenburg's SWIM program, and, most recently, the development of the Huntersville LID ordinance.
