Division of Water Quality's Asheville Regional Office Workshop Description: Low Impact Development
(LID) is a design approach that seeks to sensitively incorporate development
into existing site conditions. Minimizing hydrologic disruptions and preserving
site features may reduce implementation costs. Local officials, developers,
landowners, and design professionals will be exposed to LID design and
application, cost comparisons between LID and conventional development
for residential and commercial sites, and a model LID ordinance that meets
Phase II stormwater requirements. This workshop will focus on specific
environmental factors in Western North Carolina and participants will
receive a notebook of presentation materials and links to resources such
as the Huntersville model LID ordinance. About
the Speakers:
Neil Weinstein, P.E., R.L.A., A.I.C.P., is the Executive Director of the Low Impact Development Center, Inc., a non-profit water resources research organization. He has over 20 years of experience in water resources and environmental design and management and has worked on the development of LID for the last 8 years. Rusty Rozzelle is the Water Quality Program Manager for the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency. He has over 24 years experience with water quality issues related to stormwater and wastewater for Mecklenburg County and the development of the Huntersville LID ordinance. Frank Hahne,
P.E., works with the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services
Agency. He has experience with urban drainage system design, Mecklenburg's
SWIM program, and, most recently, the development of the Huntersville
LID ordinance. Location:

Registration Fees: $30 per person
if not seeking continuing education credit *** 9.5 hours of professional engineering credits are provided by this workshop. Attendance will be taken and certificates reflecting the number of hours completed will be mailed after the workshop. Continuing education credits for Landscape Architects may be available.
