North Carolina 4-H Presentation Guidelines

Small Engines

Purpose/Objectives:

To learn the basic operating principles of the internal combustion engine.
To learn the use of the service manuals, correct tools and safe working habits for engine disassembly and assembly.
To learn how to maintain two stroke and four stroke cycle engines.

Eligibility:

Individual or teams may compete .

Junior and Senior (9 - 19) compete in the same category.

Small engine dealers, such as, John Deere, Exmark, Briggs and Stratton, Kawasaki, etc. Small engine business Tractor Dealerships Lawn and garden centers Libraries Community Colleges Internet locations for small engines

Rules/Regulations:

Participants in the Small Engines Presentation will be required to do the following:

A copy of an old test and a complete parts list is attached for your ease of use. It is the responsibility of the participant to come prepared to take all three parts of this contest.

Questions are taken from small engine service manuals and other current literature available from small engine dealers. These questions are designed to determine the participants knowledge of maintenance, operation and principles of small engines.
