Before You Recycle, Choose to Reuse (AG-473-27, 1998, 6 pp.). Describes why reusing materials should be considered before recycling and gives several examples of reuse.

Community Backyard Composting Programs Can Reduce Waste and Save Money (AG-599, 2000, 12 pp.).  Describes how community officials can develop and implement backyard composting programs.

Conducting a Solid Waste Assessment (Slide set and script available on loan only to N. C. Cooperative Extension agents from NCSU Communication Services Visuals, 1995). Shows how to assess the waste stream of a business or industry (where to start, what to look for).

Controlling Mite Pests in Earthworm Beds (AGW-001, 1997, 2 pp.) Cooperative effort with S. Bambara, Extension Entomologist.  Suggests five methods for removing mites from earthworm beds.

Deconstruction: Giving Old Buildings New Lives (AG-473-25, 1998, 6 pp.). Describes deconstruction as a viable method for recovering building materials for reuse instead of burning or burying old buildings.

Don't Trash It! Reducing Residential Construction Debris (NCSU Communication Services video, 1995, 24:22 min. total, 12:11 each English and Spanish versions, cost $25). Shows how construction workers can reduce trash generated at job sites, and reuse and recycle materials.

Food Recovery and Waste Reduction: A Guide for Businesses and Institutions (AG-473-26, 1998, 8 pp.). Presents several options for food recovery in addition to regulatory issues and information resources.

How Your Business Can Cut Costs by Reducing Waste (AG-473-10, 1996 revised, 6 pp.). Provides tips for businesses on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle solid waste, set up a waste reduction program, and procure recycled products.

Large-Scale Organic Materials Composting (AG-593, 1999, 14 pp.).  Provides an overview of designing and operating a composting system to process municipal organic materials.

A Low-Cost Plastic Bottle and Jug Baler (AG-473-12, 1994, 6 pp.). Shows how to build a simple, economical bale press for plastic bottles and jugs. This baler is ideal for small recycling programs with limited resources; it can be constructed for less than $150 and requires no electricity or fork-lift for lifting bales.

Managing Construction And Demolition Debris: A Guide for Builders, Developers, and Contractors (AG-473-19, 1994, 4 pp.). Suggests methods for reducing, reusing, and recycling materials used on construction sites.

Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Regulations (AG-473-16, 1995, 8 pp.). Provides a summary of North Carolina's requirements for constructing, operating, and closing sanitary landfills.

Old Buildings Don't Have to Go to Waste (NCSU Communication Services video, 1996, 23 min., cost $25). Shows how to "deconstruct" (dismantle) old buildings and use the wood, brick, tin, etc. to construct new buildings.

Organizing a Business Waste Reduction Program (Slide set and script available on loan only to N. C. Cooperative Extension agents from NCSU Communication Services Visuals, 1995). Shows how to set up a program to prevent, reuse, recycle, and compost discards in businesses and industries.

Organizing a Community Recycling Program (AG-473-11, 1996 revised, 4 pp.). Identifies key elements that should be considered by local government officials in planning, implementing, publicizing, and evaluating recycling programs.

Raising Earthworms Successfully  (AGW-641/E04-43936, 2003, 26 pp.). Describes the conditions necessary to raise earthworms depending on the business market the grower chooses to pursue.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: An 8-Step Guide to Help Hotels and Motels Manage Waste (AG-529, 1996, 43 pp., cost $10). Provides lodging facility managers with detailed guidelines for implementing several solid waste management options that should help them save money and boost their green image.

Waste Reduction and Recycling for the Lodging Industry (AG-473-17, 1994, 6 pp.). Shows lodging facility managers how to save money and boost their green image by implementing an 8-step waste reduction and recycling program.

Worm Away Your Cafeteria Food Scraps! (AG-551, 1997, 8 pp.). Describes how to vermicompost cafeteria food scraps generated by schools or businesses.

Worms Can Recycle Your Garbage (AG-473-18, 2012 revised, 6 pp.). Describes how to set up and maintain a worm bin for your home or office to compost food scraps.
