Rules

A detailed and evolving set of rules govern the 1/4 scale tractor competition in order to ensure a fair and safe competition. Details of the competition rules can be found here.
 

Some highlights include:

  • Team members must be enrolled in school and national ASABE members
  • Tractor must be designed and the majority of fabrication performed by student members
  • Tractor must be less than 72 inches wide, 96 inches long, and weigh less than 900 pounds
  • Tractor may use multiple engines
  • Each team must design a fully customized frame
  • All tractors must use Briggs & Stratton 16 hp Vanguard engines, Model 303447, with no internal or external modifications
  • Engines for teams placing first, second, and third will be returned to Briggs & Stratton for disassembly and inspection after the event.
  • The maximum pass-by noise level at full throttle and a forward ground speed of 4 +- 2 mph cannot exceed 94 dB(A)
  • Gasoline will be supplied at the competition to ensure equal engine performance
  • Service brakes must be capable of locking the brake tires at maximum speed with the tractor ballasted to 1300 lbs.
  • All driven tires must by 26 x 12.00 - 12 Flotation 23 tires with a maximum wheel (rim) width of 12 inches (305 mm).
  • All tractors must have a working kill-switch that shuts off the ignition and electric fuel pump (if one is installed) in the event of the tractor becoming detached from the sled
  • All tractors must have wheelie bars and bumper-bars
  • All chains, gears, pulleys, and rotating parts must be covered by adequate shielding, which will protect hands and fingers from entering and being injured
