Mission Statement

To provide engineering leadership in the development and dissemination of knowledge related to the efficient utilization of biological and agricultural systems and to the preservation and management of natural resources.

Vision Statements

The Department provides excellent educational opportunities at both undergraduate and graduate levels with programs that are recognized as among the finest in the United States.

The Department is recognized both nationally and internationally as having a preeminent program in water and environmental systems management.

The Department is a leader and innovator in the application of engineering principles to biological systems in such areas as biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, bioprocessing, post-harvest handling, etc.

The Department is internationally recognized in the areas of machine design, ergonomics, sensors, controls, and computer applications and is a leader in integrating these technologies for use by mankind.

The Department is recognized world-wide for many of its technology transfer efforts and is frequently called upon to provide leadership for national and international dissemination tasks.

The Department provides leadership for many interdisciplinary, multi-departmental, and/or multi-agency projects and is noted for providing leadership in diverse groups who are often working on complex or ill-defined problems.
