Welcome to NC State University's Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering. This site is a product of the department and the Neuse Education Team, formed by North Carolina Cooperative Extension to provide technical education to solve water quality problems within the Neuse River Basin. We are very happy to have you with us today as we review permeable pavement siting, design, and installation. For the next two hours, you will have the opportunity to take 4 different modules on Permeable Pavements:
  1. Permeable Pavement Overview
  2. Structural Design
  3. Hydraulic design
  4. Construction

Each module consists of both:

A PowerPoint lecture for computers with standard modems and
A real player audio-visual presentation for those with modems better than 56K capability.

Also associated with each module are selected documents. The documents are found in several locations in this site. We recommend that these documents be downloaded & printed before beginning each of the related modules. Each document is available by downloading Adobe Acrobat. Please use these documents as reference as you listen to or read the lecture.

For all those interested in obtaining professional development hours, there is an end of course test available. Please take the test once you have completed all four modules. You will need your reference materials to be able to pass the end of course test.

The web site consists of 5 different pages:

  • Overview page. This is where you are right now. From here you can link to the lecture, readings, links and test pages.
  • Lecture Page. You can link to the four modules from this page. Each module contains a table of contents if you desire to see a specific topic of permeable pavements within a module. Each module consists of two presentations, as noted before: a RealPlayer audio visual presentation, which is basically an audio-visual slide show. Each module's audio ranges from 15-25 minutes. There is also a PowerPoint presentation, which tends to run better if viewed through Internet Explorer than Netscape.
  • Readings Page. All documents required to "pass" the end of course test are listed here.
  • Links Page. On this page we review the different types of information that are associated with the presentation, including the other available Urban Stormwater on-line courses, Neuse River Basin, Urban Stormwater Management and NC State University. Pertinent factsheets relating to other stormwater topics are listed on this page.
  • Test Page. Finally, if you are a professional engineer or professional land surveyor and wish to obtain PDH credits, we will be offering PDH credit with this course. For a small fee you will be able to obtain 2.0 professional development hours upon completion of the test. I strongly urge you to follow those instructions prior to taking the test.

I appreciate your taking time with this short course. If you have any questions, there is contact information scattered around the web site. It is a real pleasure to have you with us today and please come back to NC State and the Neuse River Education Team in the future. Thanks!

This is a Continuing Education Course presented by: NC State / North Carolina Cooperative Extension the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and funded in part by the Neuse River Team.
