What is the NC LID Certification Program?
The NC LID Certification Program is a rigorous training program comprised of technical and policy-oriented courses pertaining to low impact development. The certification indicates that the individual has demonstrated the knowledge, expertise, and skills necessary to properly design, plan, implement, and maintain LID projects in NC. Completing the initial requirements of the program will provide the breadth of knowledge necessary to effectively communicate with other professionals interested and involved in low impact development.

What do I have to do to receive the certification?
- Complete two required courses and any one optional course (see below).
- Pass an exam for three courses with a score of 75% and above and a comprehensive exam (exams for courses offered by Dwane Jones will be offered online following each course; if no exam is offered as a part of a course, credit for the course will be given for complete attendance and the comprehensive exam will be the substitute exam for that course).
- Maintain at least 21 professional development hours for courses offered through Extension. No other courses qualify. Certification is for two years in duration.
- Pay annual fees.
- For courses other than the certification course, the exam is optional if the individual is not interested in receiving the LID certification.

Where will the tests be located? When do I take them?
The exams for the required courses will be offered online following each course via a learning technology system called Moodle (**see more info about Moodle below). Bill Hunt will continue to offer exams in their current format. A deadline for submittal will be given.
**Moodle accounts will be created for each registrant. Once we create your account, you will receive an automated email message asking you to complete your Moodle registration by clicking on a provided link. We will then add you to the student roster and you will be ready to take the online exam within a specified time period. (Website: http://moodlepilot.ncsu.edu)
May I be "grandfathered" into the program?
If you have taken any of the required and/or optional courses in 2008 or early 2009, please email Cathy Smith at cathy_smith@ncsu.edu to determine whether course credit toward the LID certification will be granted. (The Green Design & Development course from 2008 counts as the required "Intro to LID" class.)
What are the fees for each course?
