River Course 335 - Management of Invasive and Exotic Vegetation in Riparian Areas

This one-day course will introduce students to management considerations and techniques used in controlling invasive and exotic vegetation in the riparian setting. This course is focused on riparian areas in the Southeast. Classroom topics will include identification of common invasive and exotic plants, ecological considerations, assessment and pricing, and tools of the trade. Outdoor field demonstrations will show students various techniques used to control nuisance vegetation with some hands-on activities.

Registration Fee

The registration fee of $185 includes refreshments, lunch, and workshop materials. Workshops are limited to 35 people so sign up early!

What to Bring

Students should wear water-proof boots and dress for field conditions. Though educational materials will be distributed, clipboards are recommended.

From Burlington (87 South): At intersection of Hwys 87 and 64, go straight through traffic light on 87 S. Take first left onto Pittsboro Elementary School Road. Pass school on the right and tennis courts on the left. RAFI-USA is on the left, just past the tennis courts.

From Siler City (64 Business): At the intersection of Hwys 64 Business and 87, turn right at the traffic light (Al's Diner on the right) onto Hwy 87 S. Take first left onto Pittsboro Elementary School Road. Pass school on the right and tennis courts onthe left. RAFI-USA is on the left, just past the tennis courts.

From Raleigh (Exit 386, 64 Business) or Chapel Hill (15/501 South): At the traffic circle/courthouse in Pittsboro, take 64 W 1/2 mile to intersection with Hwy 87. Turn left on Hwy 87 S. Take first left onto Pittsboro Elementary School Road. Pass school on the right and tennis courts on the left. RAFI-USA is on the left, just past the tennis courts.
