The stream restoration project tour will introduce you to five restoration or enhancement sites in the Asheville area.  Each project varies in scope and magnitude depending on site conditions.  A variety of funding sources came together to make each of these projects possible.  Time permitting, the sites will include:

Swannanoa River at Azalea Park, Asheville, NC   (completed 2006)
Davidson River, Sycamore Flats Picnic Area, Brevard, NC   (completed 2006)
Kings Creek, Brevard College, Brevard, NC   (completed 2005)
Hooker Falls, Dupont State Forest, Transylvania Co., NC   (completed 2007)
Cane Creek, Fletcher, NC   (completed 2004)

Issues including flood damage, heavy use conditions, no rise restrictions, public access, floodplain connections, in-stream structures, and streambank stabilization will be discussed. Representatives from the US Forest Service, NC Division of Forest Resources, and the stream restoration designers will be on-site to discuss design parameters, landowner concerns and lessons learned. Participants will be able to ask planning, design and construction questions.
