PROJECT HERO

INTRODUCTION

Project HERO (Help the Environment by Recycling Oil) is a used oil education and collection program sponsored by the NC Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the county waste management division. The goal of the program is to increase the amount of used oil collected for recycling by do-it-yourselfers and farmers

Everyone can "Be a HERO". Individuals who recycle used oil are "HEROES". Businesses and industries can "Be a HERO" by signing up as a collection site or contributing funds for promotional/educational materials or additional county collection centers. Civic organizations can "Be a HERO" by raising funds, helping to promote the program, and providing volunteers to the educational efforts.

Project HERO began last year as a pilot program in 19 counties in the state. Additional funding from EPA will alow the expansion of the program statewide.
