Plan of Work

General Information

Policy

The university now requires students to have a plan of work. The plan of work shows the courses that the student intends to take in future semesters. Students who have matriculated should have their plans of work complete all the way to graduation. Students who have not yet matriculated should have at least the first two years of the plan complete. Transfer students should complete as much as possible, depending on their current status.

It is the policy of the BAE Department that students must have the plan of work up-to-date prior to scheduling an appointment for advising (as, for example, to schedule the next semester's courses). The plan should have any modifications completed at least one day prior to the appointment, since the system is updated overnight. That will give the advisor the opportunity to see the revised plan before/during the meeting. After any modifications to the plan, send an email to your advisor to let him/her know that your plan has been revised and needs approval.

While the university may not yet officially require the complete plan of work of all students, it is something that needs to be done. It is well worth the small effort involved.

Modifications Are Allowed

The plan, even after approval by the advisor, is not "set in stone." The plan can be changed at any time, subject to advisor approval.

Instructions

Students

Login to MyPack Portal. The Plan of Work and Degree Audit are located under Academic Info → Degree Audit.

Warning!!! No error checking is provided.

The plan of work utility does not check the course entries to see if :

  • courses are offered during the semester in which they are entered into the plan of work. When developing or modifying your plan, always cross-check the course catalog to make sure that the course is offered in the semester desired. Be aware that some courses may be offered only in alternate years.

  • selected courses conflict with other courses planned for the same semester. There is no way around this one. Since schedules are not available for all future semesters, there is some risk that there will be conflicts that must be dealt with later.

  • prerequisites for the courses are met. Again, check the course catalog and make sure that you will meet any prerequisites or co-requisites.

Do not expect your advisor to catch these things! Your advisor may have many other advisees. It is not reasonable to expect him/her to run a detailed check of each advisee's plan for such errors. The plan of work is the responsibility of the student.
