A message form the Bio & Ag Department Head
The world today is dependent on biological and agricultural systems in the production of food, feed, and fiber; and the conservation of our natural resources. Today's engineering and technology graduates must be qualified to contribute to our rapidly expanding technology base and to play an integral part in the decision-making process.
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering offers two four-year undergraduate programs a graduate program and certificate program. The biological engineering program is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Engineering.
Graduates from this program are engineers who develop engineered solutions to problems in biology and agriculture. Problem areas include biomechanics, tissue engineering, food processing and preservation, water and waste management, air and water quality control, environmental control for animal and plant production systems, and machine systems for agricultural and biological systems. Graduation from this program is a first step toward becoming a registered professional engineer.
The second four-year program offered by the department is agricultural and environmental technology. Graduates from this program are well-grounded in production, environmental technologies and business. They can use this broad background in agricultural, environmental, and agribusiness systems providing an important technological and management link between the engineer and the consumer.
If you have an interest in engineering; enjoy studying physical, life, and mathematical sciences (subjects such as biology, math, chemistry and physics); like problem solving and learning new and creative ways of doing things; and like working with people: you should consider one of these programs because...
