About us ...

The department works towards educating field engineers, engineering researchers, and engineering technologists. The goal is to see our students develop into professionals in the fields of their choice. We want them to continue to learn throughout their careers. We encourage our graduates to use their knowledge, training and research to help communities, industries, individual citizens, and to mentor others. There are many reasons for the success of this department. However, the single most important factor through the years has always been the quality and dedication of our faculty, staff and students. Department - FAST FACTS

At Bio & Ag — WE teach — WE research — WE engineer and WE produce results...

The Faculty

The department's past faculty and its distinguished Emeritus are the individuals that established the departments strong roots and high standards thus, securing the solid base upon which Bio & Ag continues to grow and flourish. Each era had its unique challenges to which faculty addressed their efforts. It's the endeavors of our faculty which provide the focus for the department as it meets the demands of our current decade. Our faculty's efforts are too plentiful to list on this page so please visit individual faculty pages. See the Faculty Directory and the Faculty Achievers page.

Professionals

Professional Personnel have expertise in specific subject areas related to biological and agricultural engineering. They all have earned B. S., M. S. or Ph.D.'s. and some have earned professional licence's. They are assigned to research or extension positions that complement the vision and efforts of the department. See the Professionals Directory and the Faculty/Professionals Achiever page.

Extension Specialists, Associates, & Assistants

Extension outreach efforts span the state to provide engineering resource to North Carolina's communities. This departments extension efforts have consistently established the department as a productive member of the agricultural, bioprocess, and environmental communities.

The reach of extensions efforts stretch from farmlands to beach communities, and increasingly into urban and suburban communities. Bio & Ag extension personnel work hard to address the continuous and shifting negative environmental effects occurring on agricultural and forested lands, and in our watersheds. The problems stem from growing populations and industry waste. Bio & Ag extension is on the frontline providing resources and education to establish sustainable practices in communities and to help protect people from pollution. This department is committed to sustaining the quality of life we currently enjoy. For more information see: Extension Directory.

The Staff

Our staff provides support for everyone within the department. They often share their specialized expertise in communications, electronics, laboratory analysis, engineering, graphics, computer programming, and prototype fabrications with faculty, students and community representatives. Bio & Ag staff members have continually shown a commitment to serve the department's long-range goals. For more information about each of our staff members see: Staff Directory and the Staff Achievers page.

The Graduate Students

Graduate students have a way of catalyzing everyone with their efforts to be the best. They eagerly absorb and learn everything in hopes of making their special contributions to the future of engineering. The department is very proud of our graduate students as they have had many success stories to tell us. A number of our graduates with very successful careers have returned to become professors in our department bringing with them valuable experiences to share. For more information about our graduates see Graduate - FAST FACTS and the Students Achieve page.

Undergraduate Students

The undergraduate students of today will be tomorrow's future engineers and technicians. Their careers will span many fields due to the diversity of employment opportunities available to graduates with a degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering. We will one day look to them to serve the world's communities with their knowledge, the fruits of their education, and their own unique individual efforts. For more information about our undergraduates see: Undergraduate - FAST FACTS and the Students Achieve page.
